Thomas was born in the United Kingdom in 1975 and pursued a lifelong fascination with the natural world by studying Biology at the University of Bristol in 1997. The choice reflected an early desire to understand life in the broadest sense and in 1996 he spent time working for a safari company in Zimbabwe. His father loaned him an old Pentax Spotmatic to record the experience and the epiphany came when he realized photography could be used to present relationships and experiences in subjective terms.

In 1999, he joined the military with a clear goal: to experience and understand geopolitics and its human consequences first-hand, unfiltered. Service took him to conflicts in Northern Ireland and Sierra Leone, while subsequent civilian employment as an analyst included Iraq and Afghanistan.

Originally a B&W fine art landscape photographer, Thomas is now firmly committed to long-term documentary projects, embarking upon his professional career at the end of 2010.

Photographs from Russians and Royals have won multiple international awards and will soon be followed by documentary projects from around the world.
